CONNECTING TO ROCKSTAR SERVERS...

GTA 6 is not coming to PC at launch. Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will release on Thursday, November 19, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, if history tells us anything, PC players won't be left in the dark forever. Here's everything we know about the eventual PC release.
Right now, Rockstar is keeping its focus strictly on current-generation consoles. When the release date was locked in, the official Rockstar Newswire and the game's store pages explicitly listed only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. For a complete breakdown of everything else locked in so far, check out our comprehensive GTA 6 guide.
There's been zero official mention of a PC version. Frustrating for PC gamers, sure, but this silence is a standard part of Rockstar's launch playbook, not a red flag.
Update, August 2026: Rockstar has confirmed a new reveal, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, premiering on Netflix on August 27, 2026 at 3 PM ET, then on Rockstar's own YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site at 9 PM ET the same day. A lot of outlets are calling this "Trailer 3," though Rockstar hasn't used that name itself. Past reveal events like this have focused on gameplay footage rather than platform announcements, so don't expect it to confirm or rule out PC either way. Full details, including where and when to watch, are in our GTA 6 Trailer 3 release date guide.

Look at Rockstar's historical release patterns and a console-first launch is completely normal. Building a game this massive for fixed console hardware is a lot more manageable than optimizing it across thousands of different PC configurations.
There's also a deliberate philosophy behind it. A former Rockstar producer who worked on GTA 5 has explained the studio's console-first thinking in blunt terms: it's easier to design a game around fixed limits and then loosen them for PC later than to build for PC's open-ended power first and cut it down to fit consoles afterward. Rockstar has always launched on consoles, watched how the game performs, and built the PC port from there.
Worth noting: it's fair to ask whether this logic holds up as well in 2026 as it did in the PS3/Xbox 360 era. PS5 and Xbox Series X are now well into their generation, and the gap between console and PC hardware is much smaller than it used to be at this point in past cycles. That doesn't mean Rockstar will suddenly ship day-and-date this time, its release patterns have been consistent for over two decades, but it's a real reason PC players have a slightly stronger case for impatience than they did with GTA 5 or RDR2.
GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA IV: All four took roughly seven months to make the jump from console to PC.
GTA V: A more complicated rollout across two console generations meant an 18-month gap before PC players could explore Los Santos.
Red Dead Redemption 2: Took just over a year (about 13 months) to arrive on PC after its console debut.
Based on that history, PC players are generally looking at a wait of anywhere from 7 to 18 months after the console launch. If GTA 6 ships on November 19, 2026, as planned, the earliest realistic window for a PC version would be sometime in 2027, possibly stretching into early 2028 if Rockstar follows GTA V's longer timeline instead of its shorter one.
To be clear, that's an estimate built from past launches, not a leaked internal date. Rockstar hasn't confirmed any timeline for a PC port, and won't likely say anything concrete until well after the console version ships.

Almost certainly, eventually. Rockstar has brought every one of its major titles to Steam, and GTA 5 remains one of the most-played games on the platform more than a decade later.
Rockstar has never launched a major title day-one on the Epic Games Store, and it's extremely unlikely GTA 6 shows up on a subscription service like Xbox Game Pass at release, given the studio's limited history with those platforms. None of this is officially confirmed either, it's simply what Rockstar has done with every release before this one.
Why is GTA 6 not launching on PC?
Rockstar typically prioritizes a console-first release to optimize the game for fixed hardware. Porting a massive open-world game to PC takes extra development time to make sure it runs smoothly across wildly different graphics cards and processors.
How long will PC players have to wait for GTA 6?
Not officially confirmed, but historical patterns suggest 7 to 18 months after the console launch, putting a realistic PC release somewhere in 2027, possibly into early 2028.
Is GTA 6 available for pre-order on PC?
No. Since Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version, there are no PC pre-orders. Any site claiming to sell PC keys right now isn't legitimate.
Will GTA 6 be on Steam?
Not officially confirmed, but Rockstar's history with PC releases strongly suggests it, every major Rockstar title has eventually landed on Steam.
How much will GTA 6 cost on PC?
Rockstar hasn't confirmed PC pricing. Console pricing is $79.99 for Standard and $99.99 for Ultimate. If the PC version follows how most AAA games price today, it would likely match that $79.99 starting point, but that's an expectation based on industry norms, not a confirmed number.
So, will GTA 6 be on PC? Almost certainly, just not on day one. Rockstar's pattern over the last two decades points to a console launch first, a PC version somewhere in the 7-to-18-month range after, and Steam as the near-certain eventual home for it. Until Rockstar says otherwise, treat every specific PC date you see, including the ones in this article, as an educated guess rather than a fact.
