CONNECTING TO ROCKSTAR SERVERS...

Rockstar Games has confirmed the state of Leonida along with six key locations, including modern Vice City and the Leonida Keys. Here is a complete breakdown of official map confirmations, fan mapping estimates, and how the world compares to GTA 5.
As of August 2026, Rockstar Games has not released a complete official GTA 6 map showing the entire playable world as a traditional 2D map with every road, district, landmark, and point of interest.
That does not mean the map is still a mystery.
Rockstar has already shown a huge amount of GTA VI through its trailers, screenshots, official website, artwork, character profiles, and location material. We know the game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City at its centre and several other named locations spread across the wider world.
There is also another official update worth knowing about. On August 6, 2026, Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, which is scheduled to premiere on August 27, 2026 through Netflix, the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel, and the GTA VI website.
For the map itself, the important thing is separating what Rockstar has actually confirmed from what the community has reconstructed.
GTA VI takes place in the fictional state of Leonida.
Rockstar's official GTA VI material describes the setting as Vice City, USA, while also making it clear that the story extends across the wider state. In its announcement for Trailer 2, Rockstar says Jason and Lucia become caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida and invites players to "Explore Vice City and beyond."
That distinction matters.
Vice City is the major urban setting, but Leonida is the larger world surrounding it.
Rockstar's official artwork currently includes six named locations: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers, and Mount Kalaga National Park. These names can be checked directly on Rockstar's official GTA VI Artwork & Wallpapers page, which includes dedicated artwork for each one.
Calling them six named locations is the safest wording because Rockstar's artwork confirms the names, but does not publish formal administrative boundaries for each one.
Vice City is still the heart of GTA VI.
Rockstar's official site presents the game as a modern return to Vice City, while the trailers and screenshots show a much larger and more detailed version of the city than the setting players remember from the 2002 game. The official material includes beaches, highways, dense urban streets, waterfront areas, high rise buildings, nightlife, and residential neighbourhoods.
The important difference is that this time Vice City is not the whole game world. It sits inside Leonida, giving Rockstar much more room to move between very different environments.
For a broader overview of the game, our GTA 6: Everything We Know So Far guide covers the story, characters, platforms, trailers, and confirmed details.
The Leonida Keys are one of the clearest examples of GTA VI expanding beyond the city.
Rockstar has directly connected the Keys to Jason Duval's story. On its official Leonida Keys page, Rockstar says Jason spent time in the Keys working for local drug runners.
The same official material introduces Brian Heder, a longtime drug runner from the Keys. Rockstar says Brian is still moving product through his boat yard and lets Jason live rent free at one of his properties in exchange for helping with local shakedowns.
That gives the Leonida Keys real importance beyond being a location on a fan map. Rockstar has already tied the area directly to Jason's background and the criminal world around him.
Rockstar has also released dedicated screenshots for the Keys, showing a very different environment from the urban centre of Vice City.

Grassrivers is another location officially shown by Rockstar.
The company's GTA VI artwork and screenshot pages include dedicated Grassrivers material, and the footage released so far clearly shows wetland and swamp environments.
It is easy to see why fans compare the area with Florida's Everglades. Visually, the comparison makes sense.
Still, that is a community interpretation, not something that should be written as a direct Rockstar statement. Rockstar confirms Grassrivers as a GTA VI location and has shown what it looks like, but there is no need to claim that it is an exact one to one recreation of the real Everglades.
That distinction keeps the article grounded in what the developer has actually revealed.
Port Gellhorn is also officially named by Rockstar and has its own postcard and screenshot collection.
This confirms the location itself, but not every description that has appeared in community maps and social media posts.
Rockstar has not published a detailed map of Port Gellhorn explaining its exact boundaries, total size, or a specific real world counterpart. So for now, the safest thing to say is simply that Port Gellhorn is a confirmed GTA VI location within Leonida.
Anything more detailed should be treated as fan analysis unless Rockstar confirms it.
The same approach works for Ambrosia.
Rockstar officially identifies Ambrosia and has released dedicated artwork and screenshots for it.
What Rockstar has not done is publish a complete geographical explanation of the location, including precise boundaries or a full breakdown of everything found there.
That leaves plenty of room for community theories, but the basic fact is simple: Ambrosia is confirmed. Detailed interpretations of the area are not necessarily confirmed.
Mount Kalaga National Park is another named location that Rockstar has confirmed directly.
Rockstar's official Mount Kalaga National Park page and its GTA VI artwork both identify the national park by name. Dedicated screenshots also show the area as part of the game's wider setting.
That adds another layer to Leonida. GTA VI is clearly not limited to city streets and beaches. Rockstar has shown a world that includes coastal environments, wetlands, rural areas, and more mountainous or forested terrain.
What we still do not have is a Rockstar map showing the exact boundary of the national park or its precise relationship to every other location.
This depends on what you mean by "official map."
Rockstar has released a large amount of official map related information. We have named locations, screenshots, artwork, trailers, and environmental footage covering different parts of Leonida.
What Rockstar has not published is a complete traditional 2D gameplay map showing the full playable world, with every road, district, icon, landmark, and point of interest marked out.
That is why the detailed GTA 6 maps circulating online should be treated carefully.
A fan map can use genuine Rockstar footage and correctly identify landmarks while still making unofficial assumptions about roads, distances, boundaries, and locations that Rockstar has never formally confirmed.
Rockstar has not published an official figure for the total size of Leonida.
There is no Rockstar statement confirming that the GTA 6 map measures 125 km², 127 square miles, or any other specific number.

The most useful current community estimate comes from GTA6MAP.IO. Its current mapping project says that community analysis of the available GTA VI material suggests around 125 km² of land. The site clearly identifies this as community analysis and says it is an unofficial fan site, not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive.
That makes the number useful as an estimate, but it should not be presented as an official measurement.
So the cleanest wording is:
GTA6MAP.IO estimates roughly 125 km² of land, while Rockstar has not confirmed an official GTA VI map size.
The frequently repeated 127 square mile figure is much harder to support with a clearly documented, current community source.
Because of that, it should not be presented as a verified GTA 6 map measurement.
There is no need to force a precise number into the article simply because the claim has appeared repeatedly online. The better supported community estimate available from GTA6MAP.IO is the approximately 125 km² figure, and even that remains unofficial.
The 2.5 times larger claim should also be treated carefully.
Community discussions have produced different estimates when comparing GTA VI with GTA V, depending on what is being measured and how the boundaries are defined.
That makes it difficult to present 2.5× as a settled figure.
For this article, the better approach is to leave that comparison out of the factual claims. We know the GTA VI world is large and geographically varied. We also have the community estimate of roughly 125 km² from GTA6MAP.IO. Rockstar itself has not published a GTA VI versus GTA V size comparison.
GTA V combined Los Santos with Blaine County, taking players from a dense city into mountains, desert, forests, and countryside.
GTA VI appears to be using that same broad open world idea on a larger and more varied scale.
Rockstar's own material now identifies Vice City, Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers, and Mount Kalaga National Park. The screenshots also show very different environments across the wider state.
The exact size is still unknown, but the variety is not.
That may end up being more important than any final square kilometre number.
There is currently no official indication that GTA V's Los Santos will return as a playable part of GTA VI.
Rockstar's official material focuses on Leonida and Vice City, and its story description places the action across the state of Leonida.
That does not mean GTA VI cannot contain references to previous games. Rockstar has always used recurring locations, businesses, characters, and other connections across the GTA universe.
It simply means there is currently no official evidence that the actual GTA V Los Santos map is included in GTA VI.
Rockstar currently lists November 19, 2026 as the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI.
Rockstar announced that date in its November 6, 2025 Newswire post, saying the extra development time would allow the studio to finish the game with the level of polish players expect.
The official GTA VI website also lists November 19, 2026 and confirms the current console platforms as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rockstar currently lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The official GTA VI site does not currently list a PC version.

Rockstar announced on August 6, 2026 that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on August 27, 2026. The presentation is scheduled for Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, followed by the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET.
That could give players another look at Leonida, including locations and environments that have not yet received the same level of attention as Vice City and the Keys.
Until then, fan mapping projects will continue trying to piece together the gaps between Rockstar's official reveals.
As of August 2026, there is still no complete official GTA 6 map from Rockstar showing the entire playable world in traditional 2D form.
What we do have is much more substantial.
Rockstar has confirmed Leonida as the setting and officially identifies six named locations: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers, and Mount Kalaga National Park. Its official material also directly connects Jason Duval and Brian Heder to the Leonida Keys.
When it comes to map size, the safest number currently available is the roughly 125 km² estimate from GTA6MAP.IO. That is community analysis, not a Rockstar measurement.
The 127 square mile figure is not supported strongly enough to present as established fact, and the frequently repeated 2.5× comparison with GTA V should also be treated as community speculation rather than an official statistic.
For now, the best way to read GTA 6 map discussions is simple. Use Rockstar for confirmed information, use community mapping projects for estimates, and keep the two clearly separated.
With Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look scheduled for August 27, 2026, Rockstar may soon give us an even clearer look at the world of Leonida.
